Coca-Cola Japan has applied the Rikeguard protective antiviral/antibacterial film to their vending machines. Over 30,000 Coca-Cola machines in Japan have been treated with the uniquely flexible and transparent Rikeguard to cover various consumer touchpoints at highly public facilities such as shopping centres, public transportation hubs, hospitals, and welfare institutions during summer, their peak season. Rikeguard, developed by Riken Technos Corporation, has been certified by SIAA for its antiviral/antibacterial properties, and protects consumers with its 99.99% effectiveness against viruses and bacteria.

Cola-Cola Bottlers Japan’s initiatives leading to customer safety and peace of mind
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those who have been affected by COVID-19. Also, we thank all those who are working tirelessly to prevent the spread of infections and ensure the health and safety of our local communities.
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. (Headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President Calin Dragan; hereafter “CCBJI”) will start applying antiviral/antibacterial treatment to its vending machines with RIKEGUARD® V, an antiviral/antibacterial film developed by RIKEN TECHNOS CORPORATION (Headquarters in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & COO Kazuaki Tokiwa) from the middle of June. We plan to complete the initial rollout of this protective film to cover various consumer touchpoints on approximately 30,000 vending machines during the summer, our peak season.
RIKEGUARD® V is certified by SIAA for its antiviral/antibacterial properties. The film has high antiviral performance, which reduces the number of particular viruses on the surface of the film by 99.99%. Also, it has a high antibacterial performance that suppresses the growth of bacteria on the film surface to less than 1/100 of conventional products*. We decided to use this film because it is uniquely flexible and transparent, and is suitable for sticking on the product selection buttons of a vending machine. We will use RIKEGUARD V for vending machine product selection buttons and dispensing slot covers to make them more virus and bacteria resistant. We plan to complete the introduction of this treatment on approximately 30,000 vending machines located in highly public facilities such as shopping centres, public transportation hubs, hospitals, and welfare institutions.
We will continuously work on measures to increase safety and peace of mind for our customers and consumers.
*There are rigorous requirements to be met to acquire SIAA certification for antiviral and antibacterial claims.
